HC Deb 28 April 1959 vol 604 cc1079-80
31. Mr. J. Johnson

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will now make a statement upon the findings of the inquest into the deaths of the detainees at Hola Camp in Kenya.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The magistrate's findings are not expected to be announced until 6th May.

Mr. Johnson

Will the Secretary of State bear in mind the immense anxiety felt by all communities in Kenya following upon the death of ten detainees after being beaten? Will the right hon. Gentleman give the House an assurance that proceedings will be taken against anyone in the administration found culpable of neglect and maladministration in this particularly shocking incident?

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

In fairness to all who might be concerned, I think that we must first await the magistrate's findings.
