§ 37. Mr. Patrick Maitlandasked the Secretary of State for Scotland the result of inquiries made by the veterinary investigation officer of the West of Scotland Agricultural College into the problem of fluorosis; and when the results may be made available to interested farmers' organisations, such as the National Farmers' Union.
§ Mr. N. MacphersonThis investigation will not be completed until the spring of next year at the earliest. When it is complete the results will be made available to the veterinary practitioners who asked for the investigation to be made on their behalf. It will be for the West of Scotland Agricultural College to consider, in the light of the results of this investigation, whether any advice on husbandry ought to be given to farmers by the advisory service.
§ Mr. Maitlandis my hon. Friend aware that the result of this investigation will be of interest to the whole farming community? Is not it rather unfair to confine knowledge on the results to the veterinary experts? Will he have another look at this matter to see whether the results can be made available to the N.F.U. and to all other interested bodies?
§ Mr. MacphersonIt will depend upon the nature of the results what use is made of them, but the West of Scotland Agricultural College will consider whether any advice on husbandry should be given to farmers on the basis of the results obtained.
