HC Deb 07 July 1958 vol 591 c26
42. Mr. H. Fraser

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will make a further statement on proposed Government action to deal with the various claims of British subjects against the Egyptian Government.

Commander Noble

I have nothing to add today to the reply given by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer to my hon. Friend the Member for Yeovil (Mr. Peyton) on 6th May.

Mr. Fraser

Does my right hon. and gallant Friend realise that the situation of these people over here is becoming extremely grave and that time after time the claims talks with the Egyptian Government have broken down? Surely the Government are beholden to make a statement and take action before Parliament goes into recess.

Commander Noble

I particularly said in my Answer that I had nothing to add today. It is likely that negotiations will be started in the near future. I fully realise, as my hon. Friend has said, that these people have been very patient in the face of hardship.

Mr. P. Noel-Baker

Does the right hon. and gallant Gentleman realise that if he does show consideration for these people he will have full support from this side of the House?

Commander Noble

I am grateful for what the right hon. Gentleman has said.
