HC Deb 25 March 1957 vol 567 cc790-1
22. Mr. Peyton

asked the Minister of Health if he will take steps to improve the consultation between the Medical Practices Committee and regional hospital boards in hospital appointments for general practitioners.

Mr. Vosper

The appointment of general practitioners to hospital posts is a matter for the management committee concerned, in consultation as necessary with the executive council and local medical committee.

Mr. Peyton

Will not my right hon. Friend look at this matter to see whether he can improve the consultation by the Medical Practices Committee, because failure to have full consultation with local interests, particularly with regional hospital boards, has resulted in inequity and waste of money?

Mr. Vosper

I do not see that the Medical Practices Committee comes into this matter at all. It is a national board and has nothing to do with hospital appointments. There is consultation in regard to such appointments with executive councils and local medical committees. If my hon. Friend has a particular case in mind, I will, of course, examine it.
