HC Deb 19 March 1957 vol 567 c198
26. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the doctors' pay claim as regards doctors in Scotland and indicate what steps he is taking to make an interim settlement of that claim pending its consideration by a Royal Commission.

Mr. Maclay

This is essentially a United Kingdom matter, and I cannot add anything to what has already been said by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister on 12th March.

Mr. Hughes

Does the right hon. Gentleman not realise that Scottish doctors have special conditions and that those should be taken into account? What about an interim settlement pending the ultimate decision?

Mr. Maclay

My right hon. Friend the Prime Minister said that he would make a further statement on this matter in due course, and I am not prepared to add to what he said.
