asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what further improvements are to be made to roads A.41 from Newport to Whitchurch, Shropshire, and A.49 from Whitchurch to Tarporley.

Mr. Nugent

We hope to start work next year on a new roundabout at the junction of A.41 and A.49 near Whit-church. We have plans also for improving both these lengths of road throughout, including the construction of several diversions, but these schemes cannot be included in our current programme.

Mr. Johnson

I welcome the statement my hon. Friend has made, but will he bear in mind the importance of spending such money as is available for a road of that kind in straightening out the corners. as far as possible, rather than widening it by just a foot or two and putting up high kerbs which are only dangerous?

Mr. Nugent

If there are any parts of the road which my hon. Friend would particularly like to bring to my attention, I shall be very glad to look at them.
