HC Deb 17 July 1956 vol 556 cc1020-1
19. Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

asked the Secretary of State for War whether grade III men are still being posted overseas.

Mr. Head

Yes, Sir.

Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

Now that grade III men are no longer called up at all for active service, can the Minister say whether precautions are taken to ensure that the complaints, or the factors which lead to a man's being graded in this lower medical category, are not being aggravated by sending him overseas, where his health will deteriorate?

Mr. Head

Yes. Grade III men who have some health deficiency which would be made worse by a tropical climate are not sent, but if a man is short-sighted or has flat feet he probably is sent.
