§ 33. Mr. Warbeyasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will make a statement on the discussions between the representatives of the co-Chairmen of the Geneva Conference on Indo-China.
§ Mr. Selwyn LloydNo, Sir. I do not think it would be appropriate for me to say anything yet about these discussions.
§ Mr. WarbeyCan the right hon. and learned Gentleman give an assurance that if there is any proposal to postpone the operation of the agreement on free elections in Vietnam this will be only a short postponement, and that the opportunity will be used to press the South Vietnam Government to agree to participate in the necessary preparatory discussions?
§ Mr. LloydAbove all, we want to try to get agreement between the parties, and our whole efforts are directed towards that end. Whether the postponement is short or long is another matter altogether. What we want is to get agreement.
