§ 30. Mr. Chapmanasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what notifications have been received from other Government members of the China Committee of the Paris Consultative Group that they have exempted any exports of commercial vehicles to China from the general ban; what Western Powers are exporting commercial vehicles to China; and what notifications of similar exemptions have been made during the past year by Her Majesty's Government.
§ Mr. NuttingNo notifications about exports of commercial vehicles to China under the exceptions procedure have been made to the China Committee by Her Majesty's Government or other member countries of the China Committee. I have no information of any exports of these vehicles to China by Western Powers not members of the Consultative Group.
§ Mr. ChapmanI am much obliged to the right hon. Gentleman, but does he realise that, as with tractors, it may well be that some sample orders might be crucial in getting a substantial share of the eventual market? Can he say how quickly he will be able to make up his mind about when the sending of these commercial vehicle samples can be allowed?
§ Mr. NuttingAs I informed the hon. Member last week, the general question of the China trade embargo is under discussion with other countries, and I would ask him to wait for that review to take place.
