HC Deb 18 April 1956 vol 551 cc1000-1
34. Mr. Russell

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs the total sum provided by the United Kingdom up to date for the relief of distress caused by the Greek earthquakes of August, 1953.

Mr. Nutting

In addition to a gift of £250,000 to the Greek Government, Her Majesty's Government provided material and services to the amount of £265,000 approximately. The total sum is £515,000.

Mr. Russell

Can my right hon. Friend say whether any other country has also given assistance in this way, and whether proper appreciation has been expressed by the Greek Government?

Mr. Nutting

The Greek Government, of course, have expressed appreciation. As to other countries, perhaps my hon. Friend would put another Question on the Order Paper.
