HC Deb 31 October 1955 vol 545 c662
6. Captain Pilkington

asked the Minister of Health what he estimates is the present shortage of dentists.

Miss Hornsby-Smith

I would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the reply given to the hon. Member for Newcastle-upon-Tyne, East (Mr. Blenkinsop) on 11th July, 1955.

Captain Pilkington

Is my hon. Friend satisfied with the steps which have been taken and are being taken to remedy the deficiency?

Miss Hornsby-Smith

My hon. and gallant Friend knows that the purpose of the McNair Committee is to investigate the reasons for the inadequate recruitment and to make recommendations. That Committee is now sitting, and we shall be most anxious to receive its report.

Mr. Blenkinsop

Can the hon. Lady say anything further about when we may expect the report of the McNair Committee?

Miss Hornsby-Smith

I am sorry, but we have no information yet when the inquiry will be concluded.
