§ 17. Mr. Iremongerasked the Minister Education whether he will recommend to local education authorities that primary school headmasters' reports be taken into account when selecting children for grammar school places.
§ Sir D. EcclesMost authorities do this. I think the practice is to be encouraged.
§ Mr. IremongerWould my right hon. Friend bear in mind the distressing circumstances in which my constituent, Mr. Ingram, about whom he has had correspondence, finds himself? Is he aware that it was through the failure of Essex Education Committee to apply this principle that those distressing circumstances arose and Mr. Ingram's daughter's career 356 was jeopardised? Does he further recognise that, if he would urge all the education authorities to adopt this principle, it might prevent this sort of thing from happening in other parts of the country as well?
§ Sir D. EcclesI have not yet had a reply from the Essex authority on the case to which my hon. Friend has referred. When I have received it I will write to him.
