HC Deb 27 October 1955 vol 545 c355
16. Mr. Dodds

asked the Minister of Education, in view of the successful experiments in Kent by Enterprise Unlimited to recruit young women to be trained to be useful in emergencies, if he will give consideration to giving all possible support to enable the organisation to become an important young women's organisation on a national scale.

Sir D. Eccles

I am glad that the hon. Member thinks that Enterprise Unlimited is a success. It is for the voluntary organisation responsible for this scheme to decide how widely it wishes to develop it.

Mr. Dodds

Does not the right hon. Gentleman appreciate the need for this organisation to succeed? Does he not appreciate that, if it is to succeed, it needs financial help to enable it to develop its very much needed scheme?

Sir D. Eccles

Enterprise Unlimited is run by the Girls Training Corps, which is a constituent body of the National Association of Training Corps for Girls. I have offered the Association a grant of a little over £15,000 in the current year, and it has not asked me for any increase. I hope that it will not do so.
