§ 31. Mr. Peter Freemanasked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether he will make a statement on the parking of cars without lights in London, as provided by Statutory Instrument No. 1363; and when he will provide similar facilities in the provinces.
§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterThe Regulations came into operation in London on the 21st September; it is too early as yet adequately to assess their effect, but I understand that, up to the present, they have been generally welcomed and that no substantial difficulties have come to the notice of the police. As regards the rest of the country, I am now examining the comments of certain organisations which I consulted about the signs and markings to be used.
§ Mr. FreemanIs it not a fact that this question was raised over a year ago and was received sympathetically; and is this not rather a long time to wait for the facilities to be provided, in view of the great advantage they would be to the travelling public?
§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterI agree that they are an advantage to the public, which is why I am promoting them, but as the necessary signs have to be erected not by me bat by other bodies outside I think it is necessary to carry them with me in regard to the particular form of marking to be used.
