§ 42. Mr. Alportasked the Secretary of State for War whether he is now in a position to make a further statement regarding the proposed scheme to provide special facilities for officers and other ranks to purchase houses during or immediately on termination of their service.
§ Mr. HeadWe intend to start a scheme on 1st September. It will be linked with the present Forces Savings Scheme and involves the contribution of a fixed yearly sum which is converted into National Savings Certificates. A pamphlet giving details of the scheme will shortly be issued by the Forces Savings Committee.
§ Mr. AlportIs my right hon. Friend aware that this news will be very greatly welcomed, particularly among long-service soldiers, who are always anxious about their prospects of obtaining houses at the end of their engagements?
