HC Deb 21 June 1955 vol 542 cc1140-1
43. Mr. Bellenger

asked the Secretary of State for War what progress has been made with the disbandment of Anti-Aircraft Command; and whether he will make a statement as to the reorganisation carried out as a result of this decision.

Mr. Head

Disbandments, amalgamations and transfers of units to other rôles started in March and will for the most part be completed by 1st August. On that date responsibility for all remaining anti-aircraft units stationed in the United Kingdom will pass to Home Commands. The headquarters of Anti-Aircraft Command and of anti-aircraft groups will close down soon after. Details of the reorganisation were given in reply to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Wycombe (Mr. John Hall) on 8th March.

Mr. Bellenger

Can the right hon. Gentleman say a little more than that? How many volunteers has he been able to retain and how many has he lost as a result of this disbandment of Anti-Aircraft Command?

Mr. Head

That does not arise out of the Question. I will give the accurate figures if the right hon. Gentleman will give me notice of the question.
