§ 2. Lieut.-Colonel Liptonasked the Assistant Postmaster-General when he will provide better post office facilities in Brixton.
§ Mr. GammansWe hope to provide a larger Crown post office in Brixton before the end of next year.
§ Lieut.-Colonel LiptonIs the hon. Gentleman aware that he seems to be taking a long time in finding more suitable premises than the present quite inadequate Crown Office at Brixton, and does his answer mean that we have to wait until the end of 1956 before we get any improvement?
§ Mr. GammansI would remind the hon. and gallant Gentleman, who I know 1064 is very anxious about this matter, that I have had a special investigation made of conditions in Brixton, and the report I have received is that there is no delay whatever at the moment in people getting their letters. I am afraid that it does mean waiting until next year for a new post office because we have not yet got the premises which we hope to convert.
§ Mr. Ness EdwardsDoes that answer mean that the ban on new buildings has now been lifted?
§ Mr. GammansYes, Sir.
