HC Deb 15 June 1954 vol 528 cc1742-3
60. Mr. H. Hynd

asked the Minister of Works if he will invite Dr. Oppenheimer, whose services as atomic scientist are not required by the United States Government, to put his knowledge at the disposal of this country.

Mr. Bevins

My information is that the United States Atomic Energy Commission has not yet decided whether to extend Dr. Oppenheimer's appointment as a consultant. Apart therefore from any other considerations, the Question is at the present time a hypothetical one.

Mr. Hynd

As the inquiry in America gave a very favourable report on this gentleman, and as scientists of his stature are not too numerous, will the suggestion be borne in mind?
