§ 34. Mr. Pageasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government how many local authorities have put into operation the 95 per cent. mortgage guarantee scheme for house purchase described in his Department's Circular No. 42 of 1954.
§ The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (Mr. W. F. Deedes)Seven hundred and seventy-two local authorities in England and Wales have resolved to put into operation the two schemes of guarantee described in the circular. I regret that I have no information as to the number of authorities who have actually given guarantees under one or other of the schemes.
§ Mr. PageWhile expressing satisfaction at the fact that a large number of local authorities have put this scheme into operation, may I ask my hon. Friend if he will ask his right hon. Friend to consider the issuing of a further circular to clear up some of the difficulties which many local authorities have found in trying to operate this scheme?
§ Mr. DeedesA number of points of difficulty have arisen, as might be expected in a new scheme, and a further circular giving guidance is in preparation.
