§ 34. Mr. Fenner Brockwayasked the Minister of Transport if he will sanction as a top priority the construction of the proposed Eton—Windsor relief road, bypassing Eton High Street.
Mr. BraithwaiteNo, Sir. It will not be practicable to carry out so expensive a scheme until economic conditions are a good deal easier.
§ Mr. Fenner BrockwayIs the Minister aware of the very great urgency for relieving the crush of traffic between Windsor Bridge and the Burning Bush, that owing to the "No waiting" notices shopkeepers are in many cases in danger of being ruined, and that the sons of many hon. Members opposite are in great danger from the excess traffic in that street?
Mr. BraithwaiteThe hon. Gentleman asks a number of supplementaries. On the main issue, the cost of the scheme 1816 to which he refers in his original Question would be about £1 million, for which funds are not available. The "No waiting" arrangement is, of course, an endeavour to get the traffic through, and has been approved by the London and Home Counties Traffic Advisory Committee and other bodies concerned.
