HC Deb 16 March 1953 vol 512 c1815
33. Mr. Bottomley

asked the Minister of Transport when the survey stage of the Rochester by-pass road will be completed.

Mr. Braithwaite

In seven or eight months, I hope.

Mr. Bottomley

Is the Minister aware that the high casualty rate in my division is largely due to the absence of the bypass road? Will the Minister consult his right hon. Friend the First Lord of the Admiralty about the need for this by-pass road for purposes of strategy?

Mr. Braithwaite

We are fully aware of the need. The hon. Gentleman may be aware of the fact that there is opposition from certain farming concerns to the tentative line that is now being surveyed. We hope that this difficulty will soon be settled. As I have said, the survey will be completed in seven or eight months' time.
