HC Deb 02 July 1953 vol 517 c573
26. Sir L. Ropner

asked the Minister of Agriculture what steps he has taken to satisfy himself that pig producers will be able to take advantage of the consumer demand for bacon and pork pigs when the new weight ranges are introduced.

Sir T. Dugdale

The schedule of prices for pigs introduced last April was designed to encourage farmers to market pigs of the type required for the pork and bacon trades today. I am sure that farmers can and will produce pigs of the right type and quality to meet consumer demands. My Department and the Ministry of Food are co-operating with the National Farmers' Union to help farmers to do so.
