HC Deb 16 December 1953 vol 522 cc385-6
68. Mr. Willey

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty what orders have been placed by his Department with Wear shipbuilders

Mr. J. P. L. Thomas

Wear shipbuilders at present hold orders for two Admiralty tankers and three coastal minesweepers.

Mr. Willey

Will the right hon. Gentleman appreciate that we are much obliged to him for getting Admiralty contracts, because, as a rule, we are neglected as far as the Admiralty go? May I ask him if he will keep this matter under review so that, wherever possible, the North-East Coast can be considered along with other shipbuilding areas?

Mr. Thomas

I will certainly keep the position under review, and that is one reason why I am going to the area next month to see the position at first hand.

Mr. Callaghan

Has the right hon. Gentleman considered Question No. 70 relating to Cardiff?
