§ 51. Mr. Beswickasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what financial assistance has been given to co-operative societies in Sierra Leone; and, in particular, what loans have been advanced for the purchase of lorries.
§ Mr. LytteltonThe Sierra Leone Government have guaranteed advances of £6,318 to co-operative societies by a commercial bank. No loans have been made for the purchase of lorries.
§ Mr. BeswickIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that in some cases co-operative society development is being frustrated by the lack of adequate transport, and that loans have been requested for this purpose? Will he see if anything can be done to consider favourably the applications?
§ Mr. LytteltonI have no information on that subject. I will gladly look into the matter.
