HC Deb 11 November 1952 vol 507 cc760-1
44. Mr. Patrick Maitland

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what further progress has been made in setting up self-help building associations following his circular to local authorities last April.

Commander Galbraith

So far as I am aware, seven inquiries in all have been addressed to local authorities following the issue of the Circular. As a result, five associations have so far been approved in principle by the local authority concerned.

Mr. Maitland

In view of the gratifying results that have followed from the Circular which the Secretary of State issued last April, will my hon. and gallant Friend draw further attention to it, because a number of local authorities do not seem to be aware that there are self-help housing groups ready to help themselves, and that there is authority for going ahead?

Commander Galbraith

I will consider it.
