HC Deb 11 November 1952 vol 507 c761
55. Mr. Patrick Maitland

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many houses had been completed by the East Kilbride Development Corporation by 15th October, 1952.

Commander Galbraith

The Corporation had completed 502 houses at 25th October, the date of the latest available return.

Mr. Maitland

Is my hon. and gallant Friend aware that that represents a rate of completion of roughly half of what he himself forecast on the Floor of this House last May, and will he look into the matter?

Commander Galbraith

May I point out to my hon. Friend that the average rate of completions per month is gradually increasing? There is now available a much larger labour force than there was previously, and there seems no reason at the present moment to doubt that the target figure may well be reached.

Mr. Maitland

Since the target figure was to be 500 in the current financial year and the completions to date represent about 250, may I ask how my hon. and gallant Friend is going to get another 250 in the next two months?

Commander Galbraith

My hon. Friend is mistaken. The financial year ends at 31st March.
