HC Deb 11 November 1952 vol 507 c760
43. Mr. Patrick Maitland

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many of the 3,000 non-traditional houses ordered from the Weir Housing Corporation have been completed; and whether further large-scale orders for non-traditional houses are in prospect.

Commander Galbraith

I assume that my hon. Friend is referring to the programme of timber houses. The first of these will be finished towards the end of November. I am not at this stage in a position to make any statement about a further programme of timber houses.

Mr. Maitland

May I ask the Joint Under-Secretary whether he is aware that, on a previous occasion, the reply was that there was not enough soft timber, although the then Secretary for Overseas Trade said there was? Will he therefore look into the whole problem again, with a view to extending this purchasing programme?
