7. Mr. Lewis

asked the Minister of Food the number of cases that have been reported to the food offices since October, 1951, of alleged breaches of the rationing orders by rationed food being sold off the ration; and in how many cases prosecutions have ensued.

Between 1st October, 1951, and 31st October, 1952, 5,847 cases were reported to food offices and investigated. Of these, 1,115 led to prosecutions of which 1,080 were successful. In 166 cases further action has yet to be decided.
