HC Deb 14 November 1951 vol 493 cc962-3
19. Mr. R. E. Winterbottom

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General the total number of telephones installed during the 12 months ended 30th September, 1951; and to what extent it is intended to maintain this rate of installation.

Mr. Gammans

Three hundred and forty-four thousand one hundred and ninety. My noble Friend intends to maintain as high a rate of installation as our resources and the requirements of the defence programme will allow.

Mr. Hector Hughes

Do the figures the Minister has just given include Scotland, and will he give the figures of Scotland separately? Is he aware that further installations are badly needed in north-east Scotland, and would he say what he intends to do to increase them?

Mr. Gammans

The figures do include Scotland. If the hon. and learned Gentleman would like to know what the figures for Scotland are, perhaps he will put down a Question.
