HC Deb 29 May 1951 vol 488 c32
65. Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the President of the Board of Trade what quantities of gin and rum were exported to the African Colonies in 1949 and 1950, respectively.

Mr. Bottomley

Exports of spirits under the heading "gin and other British compounds," most of which was gin, from the United Kingdom to the African Colonies amounted to 121,000 proof gallons in 1949, and to 132,000 proof gallons in 1950. Exports of imported rum to the African Colonies amounted to 14,000 proof gallons in 1949, and to 8,000 proof gallons in 1950.

Mr. Emrys Hughes

Are we to understand that the Government's policy is now to cut down these exports?

Mr. Bottomley

No, Sir.
