HC Deb 29 May 1951 vol 488 cc31-2
64. Wing Commander Bullus

asked the President of the Board of Trade how far the terms of the agreement whereby the United States of America supplies this country with 95,000 tons of sulphur preclude the buying of any other available sulphur.

The Secretary for Overseas Trade (Mr. Bottomley)

No conditions were attached to the allocation of sulphur made to us by the United States Government for the second quarter of this year.

Wing Commander Bullus

Has the hon. Gentleman noticed a statement made a month ago to the effect that there was sulphur available, but that it could not be purchased because the Americans would deduct it from the annual amount of 95,000 tons which they supply to this country?

Mr. Bottomley

The Board of Trade made it known that anyone could buy sulphur wherever it was possible to obtain it.
