HC Deb 16 May 1950 vol 475 cc992-3
29. Brigadier Medlicott

asked the Minister of Town and Country Planning if his attention has been drawn to the threat, on planning grounds, to the continued existence of Bekonscot, at Beacons-field; and if he will give an assurance that he will not allow town planning to interfere with this unique miniature village.

Mr. Dalton

The Buckinghamshire County Council are discussing this with the owner, and will inform me of the outcome.

Brigadier Medlicott

Will the Minister bear in mind that this little village has given a great deal of pleasure to a great many people? Will he not agree that new planning powers should be exercised very sparingly in a place where an amenity has been enjoyed for so long without substantial objection?

Mr. Dalton

Yes, Sir. The primary responsibility lies with Buckingham County Council. They will let me know the outcome of their talks. There is some argument on the other side, about litter. noise and disorder. Local residents have complained about this. When it comes to me I will certainly consider the question sympathetically.
