HC Deb 13 March 1950 vol 472 cc723-4
4. Major Tufton Beamish

asked the Minister of Works what arrangements he has made to assist the public to recognise the various species of duck in St. James's Park; and what improvements he will make in these arrangements.

Mr. Stokes

Various species are named and illustrated on coloured tiles. With the advice of the Committee on Bird Sanctuaries in the Royal Parks, new illustrations are being prepared, more accurately coloured and covering a larger number of species. I hope that this new series will not suffer from the vandalism which has damaged or destroyed many of the tiles.

Mr. Walter Fletcher

Would the right hon. Gentleman make certain that his ministerial colleagues always recognise a "canard "when they see it?

Mr. Stokes

I cannot answer for everybody, but I hope that the hon. Gentleman, now that he has become a member of the Kitchen Committee, will see that the right ones reach the Dining Room table.
