HC Deb 26 July 1950 vol 478 c443
42. Mr. Fisher

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation if he will alter the schedule of landing charges at Ministry-controlled aerodromes, so as to charge a jet aircraft more than a piston-engined aircraft of the same weight.

Mr. Beswick

The schedule of landing fees is under constant review, but discrimination against jet aircraft is not at present contemplated.

Mr. Fisher

Will the Parliamentary Secretary bear in mind, because I believe that it is generally agreed, that the jet stream from these aircraft is most injurious to the surface of runways, and, that being so, does he not think it reasonable that jet planes should pay more than ordinary aircraft?

Mr. Beswick

We will bear that in mind. At the moment our idea is to lead the world with these jet aircraft, and it would be a bad thing to discourage them by additional imposts of this kind.
