HC Deb 26 July 1950 vol 478 cc443-4
44. Mr. Reader Harris

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation what steps he is taking to abate the danger to aircraft using London Airport that is constituted by the gasholder at Heston.

Mr. Beswick

I cannot agree that this gasholder constitutes a danger to aircraft using London Airport.

Mr. Harris

Would not the Parliamentary Secretary agree that in view of the high speeds and low approach angles of modern aircraft, it would be desirable to remove this holder and replace it with one which is lower?

Mr. Beswick

It may be desirable in some ways but not so desirable as to give the additional advantages which would compensate for the cost of removing it.
