HC Deb 26 July 1950 vol 478 cc431-2
10. Mr. Erroll

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation the cost of Ariel House; and the number of persons employed there at any recent date.

Mr. Beswick

In answer to the first part of the Question, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given by my right hon. Friend the Minister of Works to the Question addressed to him on 21st November, 1949, by the hon. and gallant Member for Macclesfield (Air Commodore Harvey). The answer to the second part is: 891 on 1st July, 1950.

Mr. Erroll

In view of the fact that this completely new building could be used for housing purposes, could not the number of staff there be either reduced or eliminated in order to make the accommodation available for other purposes?

Mr. Beswick

No, Sir.

Mr. Charles Ian Orr-Ewing

Does the Parliamentary Secretary think that Ariel House will be big enough, or is he going to go yet further and obtain more accommodation for the headquarters of this Ministry?

Mr. Beswick

It will be big enough.

Mr. Chetwynd

Could my hon. Friend say how many of those employed in this place have been employed in answering all the Questions put down to him today?
