HC Deb 18 May 1949 vol 465 cc430-1
55. Mr. Boothby

asked the Minister of Food whether he will now decontrol the prices of white fish.

Dr. Summerskill

No, Sir. My right hon. Friend is not yet prepared to take this action.

Mr. Boothby

Does not the right hon. Lady realise that if this action were taken the quality of fish would immediately improve, and that at present it is getting worse every day?

Dr. Summerskill

That may be so, but I must remind the hon. Gentleman that there are other factors. It is essential that housewives should have a big supply of fish to replace the deficiency in meat.
