HC Deb 03 November 1948 vol 457 c847
38. Colonel Dower

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what percentage of the air lift load to Berlin is borne by the United Kingdom and the U.S.A., respectively.

Mr. Bevin

From 28th June, 1948 (the date the air lift began) to 25th October, 1948, the percentages were: United Kingdom, 32 per cent.; United States, 68 per cent. The United Kingdom lift is assisted by air crews from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Colonel Dower

Will the right hon. Gentleman take any steps he is able to take, apart from his answer, which will receive publicity, so that these figures will be known in America and other parts of the world?

Mr. Gallacher

In view of questions put to other Ministers, could my right hon. Friend spare any of these planes for Islay and the Hebrides?

Mr. Bevin

No, I think that depends on gentlemen in another place.

Mr. Keeling

Was there any French participation in the air lift?

Mr. Bevin

No, Sir.
