HC Deb 04 May 1948 vol 450 cc1083-4
37. Brigadier Thorp

asked the Minister of Town and Country Planning if he will make a statement about the public inquiry on Ross Links, at present requisitioned by the War Office.

Mr. Silkin

Yes, Sir. The public local inquiry referred to will be opened at the Council Chamber, County Hall, Newcastle-upon-Tyne at 10.30 a.m. on Wednesday, 16th June, for the purpose of hearing representations as to the effect on the public interest of the proposal of the War Department.

Brigadier Thorp

How will persons and societies interested be notified?

Mr. Silkin

In the usual way.

Brigadier Thorp

May I ask what that is?

Mr. Silkin

By advertisement and by post.

Brigadier Thorp

If the Minister will send me enough of these notices, of which he has sent me a copy, then I will send them out to the people concerned.

Mr. Silkin

I am very much obliged to the hon. and gallant Gentleman for offering to do the work of my Department. We are quite capable of doing it ourselves.
