HC Deb 04 May 1948 vol 450 c1084
38. Mr. Charles Williams

asked the Minister of Town and Country Planning what is the total number of personnel employed by his Ministry at the latest available date.

Mr. Silkin

One thousand and sixty.

Mr. Williams

Is the right hon. Gentleman quite sure that his Department is employing enough people to make their full contribution in the matter of full employment?

Mr. Silkin

I think we are very short-staffed.

Mr. Williams

Will the right hon. Gentleman make certain of that fact, because it is really impossible to understand the necessity for all these people except for that one purpose.
