HC Deb 01 March 1948 vol 448 cc28-9
56. Mr. P. Wells

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he is satisfied that the price fixed for the 1948 wool clip is sufficient to encourage breeders to retain and breed from breeding sheep.

Mr. T. Williams

As part of the agricultural expansion programme, wool prices in 1948, as already announced, will be increased by an average of 7½d. a lb. But I should remind my hon. Friend that wool is only one product of the sheep breeding industry, the profitability of which is largely determined by the prices realised for sheep and lambs.
