HC Deb 12 July 1948 vol 453 cc825-6
24. Mr. Asterley Jones

asked the Minister of Transport whether, in view of the observations of Lord Justice Scott in the Court of Appeal on 1st July, he will reconsider his decision not to permit the entry in the registration book of a motor vehicle the interest of the owner when the vehicle is subject to a hire-purchase agreement.

Mr. Barnes

I cannot say until I have seen a full report of the case, but this will be studied as soon as it is available.

Mr. Jones

Will my right hon. Friend receive evidence from hon. Members about the cases of hardship which the present state of the law has caused?

Mr. Barnes

Certainly, any evidence that will facilitate a study of this matter will be welcomed. It is being, and has been, very carefully studied.

Mr. Lipson

When will the right hon. Gentleman be able to make a statement?

Mr. Barnes

It should not take long to study this report. Perhaps hon. Members will put Questions down in anticipation.
