13. Lieut.-Commander Hutchisonasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that taxi-cabs in Edinburgh are having to be laid up owing to the shortage of tyres, with consequent inconvenience and hardship both to the public and to the owners of these vehicles; and if he will take steps to increase the supply of typres to the proprietors of taxicabs.
§ Mr. H. WilsonI understand that the cabs referred to are fitted with semi-obsolete sizes of tyres. The production of these sizes is irregular owing to the heavy demands for normal sized tyres for new equipment, replacements, and for export. Manufacturers are doing their best to meet demands as occasion offers.
