HC Deb 22 January 1948 vol 446 cc352-3
12. Mr. Marlowe

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that Mr. Albert Baldwin, of 34, Hamilton Road, Brighton, was blinded and rendered handless in the Western Desert; that in consequence he has been trained by St. Dunstan's to earn his living by weaving cloth on a hand-loom especially designed for him; and why in the circumstances his Department has refused him a coupon allotment with which to acquire the necessary cotton thread, and has thereby prevented him engaging in this occupation.

Mr. H. Wilson

I am unable to trace any application from Mr. Baldwin for facilities to obtain cotton yarn. If the hon. Member will give me particulars of the case I will gladly look into it.

Mr. Marlowe

Is not the right hon. Gentleman aware that this case has been brought to the attention of his officers? Has he made sufficient inquiries to find out why the allocation has been reduced?

Mr. Wilson

I have made all the inquiries I can, but I would be glad to look at it again.
