HC Deb 24 February 1948 vol 447 c1773
75. Mr. Bowden

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will arrange for the Central Price Regulation Committee to investigate the prices charged for men's haircutting throughout the country, with a view to fixing a maximum charge.

Mr. Bottomley

The Central Price Regulation Committee are giving consideration to this matter. I would emphasise, however, that an overall maximum charge would be inappropriate for a service, the quality and conditions of which vary so greatly.

Mr. David Eccles

Would the hon. Gentleman persist in that, because as there is no price ceiling on ladies' hats it is quite unfair to put a price ceiling on men's hair?
