HC Deb 13 April 1948 vol 449 cc789-90
44. Mr. Skinnard

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will take steps to ensure that the whole of the remission of Entertainments Duty, as it applies to theatres, is passed on to patrons in the form of a reduction in the price of seats.

Sir S. Cripps

While realising that it may not be possible to pass on the whole of the remission in every case to the public, I hope that the remission will be passed on wherever possible.

Mr. Rankin

Will my right hon. and learned Friend keep the same attitude of mind when dealing with football games?

Sir S. Cripps

Certainly.

Mr. Spence

Will the remission in duty date from the announcement made last Tuesday, or from some future date?

Sir S. Cripps

I think it is 1st May, but I. am not quite sure. I stated the date from which it will take effect.
