HC Deb 13 April 1948 vol 449 c790
45. Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyre

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what action His Majesty's Government propose to take arising from their recent investigation into the free currency and gold market in Hong Kong.

Sir S. Cripps

Preliminary reports only of the investigation have so far been received. Proposals for action must await receipt and examination of the full report.

Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyre

Can the Chancellor say about what date he will have such proposals to lay before the House?

Sir S. Cripps

I do not propose to lay them before the House, but I imagine that some time about the middle of next month I should be able to say what they are.
