HC Deb 01 July 1947 vol 439 c1141
49. Mr. Gammans

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if, in view of the fact that the Government are not at present prepared to fix rates of pay for women in the Civil Service equal to those granted to men, he is prepared to increase the maximum salary scale of women's appointments so that a woman can continue to draw increments until she ultimately reaches the same maximum as a man.

Mr. Dalton

No, Sir. I have at present nothing to add to my statement of nth June.

Mr. Gammans

Will the right hon. Gentleman say what this concession would cost in, say, three years? Would he give a little more explicit information than just "No, Sir."

Mr. Dalton

The statement I made on nth June was carefully considered, and I have nothing to add.
