HC Deb 21 January 1947 vol 432 c28
45. Sir Jocelyn Lucas

asked the Prime Minister if he will now make a statement as to the award of the C.D. Medal to members of the Auxiliary Nursing Reserve who were serving when captured by the Japanese, bearing in mind that V.A.Ds captured in identical circumstances receive two medals.

The Prime Minister (Mr. Attlee)

The arrangements for the recognition of the service of members of the Auxiliary Nursing Service in Hong Kong and the corresponding organisation in Malaya are still under consideration with the Governors of the territories concerned, but it is hoped that recommendations will be received in the near future.

Sir J. Lucas

In view of the fact that this Question has been pending now for more than a year, could the right hon. Gentleman say how long it will remain under consideration?

The Prime Minister

I have sent an urgent message to the Governor-General of Malaya asking him to collate all these reports, and to let me have them as soon as possible.

Sir J. Lucas

Thank you very much.
