HC Deb 21 October 1946 vol 427 cc1299-300
76. Sir Wavell Wakefield

asked the Minister of Supply how many blankets, used and unused, are in stock; and, in view of the big reduction in demand for Government purposes and the surplus stocks resulting, what steps have been, or are being, taken to dispose of this surplus.

Mr. Wilmot

The present stocks of surplus blankets are 4¼ million. Distribution of these, which are being allocated entirely to the home civilian market, will start in the immediate future.

Sir W. Wakefield

Could the Minister say whether any of these supplies will be available for the export market at all?

Mr. Wilmot

I am advised that the blankets referred to in the answer are being allocated entirely to the home civilian market.
